Patriots; Dalton, Knock out Manchester

The patriots took the field of champions Friday night undefeated under Coach Wyatt Rogers for the 08' campaign. They left the field the same. They kept their lead in the division and also remained numero uno at the top of the MPSA's Class AA. Tyler Dalton ran the ball early and often and dominated the Manchester defense single handedly the entire contest scoring four of his teams touchdowns (all on the ground) while rushing for over 275 yards. It was what could have been one of the best single performances that many have seen since Rogers was here last here and Taylor McNeil was calling the shots. "T.D." didnt do it alone though. The Patriots had Corey Vernon and Hunter Hughley running the football as well and racking up even more yards for this high powered Patriot Spread that runs in the no huddle. For the second week in a row Austin Harrison was not playing receiver but did get some "PT" as he returned all the punts for Winston. He also came in at cornerback during crunch time in the fourth quarter. The Patriots ran smoothly for the first time this season offensively and defensively had another solid game with the exception of two or three big plays that turned into touchdowns for the visiting Mavs. Winston though is beginning to get into tougher oppenents as the stretch run hits. After a bye week this week the Patriots will be on the road again for two games at Tri County another conference game, and the AAA Heritage Patriots. Following those ball games the Patriots return home in a matchup that will determine the division against Canton Academy and the final game will be against former Patriot player and coach Brian Sims and the Starkville Academy Vols. The rest of the season will prove to be a tough one but the Patriots think they can handle it. They have clinched a fourth straight playoff berth with their win this week but they look to get over thier slump of making it to Clinton as they've been 8 years without a state championship. The Last Time? Coach Rogers won his second straight. Can he become one of the elite coaches in the State with his third in as many years. We'll find out in the weeks to come. Stay tuned Patriot fans.

Patriots Take Out Jaguars Improve To 5-0

The Patriots came onto the field Friday night to a torrential downpour and that lead to a very sloppy game on Patriot field. With Austin Harrison out after his ankle injury from the Leake game, the pats had to look to someone else to stepup and take his place. That was going to prove to be a hard task to achieve though from this Patriot offense. The Patriot offense flourished for the most part throughout the game with Tyler Dalton running in a couple of touchdowns and throwing for another to Dylan Morgan on a nice race down the sidelines. Dylan was that guy to step into the shoes of Austin Harrison and steping up to the plate. The Patriot defense also did their part and allowed just a couple of touchdowns. J.P. Arnett was the mainstay in the defense on this night with a few tackles and an interceptions. And his part earned him the Temptco steel player of the week. The Patriots again struggled though to make a statement against a lesser 1A opponent in Wayne Academy. But with the win they did manage to start their season at 5-0 and 1-0 in the conference. Their next big test comes next week at Patriot field against the Manchester Mavs. This will be their second conference game of the season and with a win they can make a bigger statement among the other teams in the MPSA. Although have failed to make a big one, the Patriots still have established themselves as the number 1 team in the entire classification of 2A and overall they come in at number 4 in the MPSA. Only time will tell though if Coach Wyatt Rogers can win his 3rd State championship in as many seasons with the Winston Academy Patriots.

Winston wins a scare over Leake 20-16

Well from what I hear this one was a game that most people thought we should have lost right after the first half concluded. Unfortunately i wouldnt know because i didnt make the trip to beautiful Madden because i had obligations in starkville (otherwise known as Bulldog Bash). The game could have been ugly but all i saw was the score and that means another win in the book for Coach Wyatt Rogers in company. The Patriots improved to 4-0 on the young season while starting off the conference slate right. The Patriots also look to add to that perfect start as they come back home after a three game road trip to host 1A Wayne Academy. It will prove to be a good one at Patriot field so i hope i see you there. later peeps

Patriots knock off mighty Raiders 12-7

In a game that was noticed among the top 10 games this week in the state of Mississippi and the biggest game between MPSA foes, the Patriots traveled to Grenada, Mississippi to take on a traditional power house in Kirk Academy. The two teams came into the game both undefeated in the early season but unfortunately for the home team, they left with their first loss. Winston was given many oppurtunities to put the game away but was plagued with many mistakes offensively. The game was dominated by the defense on both teams and fittingly was ended on a defensive interception by Austin Harrison. Both teams stalled on their first possession but Tyler Dalton and Dillon Morgan ended that on the ensuing possession. Dalton launched the ball down the field to a covered Morgan who made the catch over his defender for a 50 yard score. Dillion though usually a guy who never misses an extra point sent one wide left and the Patriots took a 6-0 lead to the second quarter. Kirk would answer later in the quarter with a touchdown after their offense took the field off a Dalton interception. They would get the ball back right before halftime and on a pass completion, second string safety Channing Bucklew was hit and the leg and seriously injured. He was eventually carried by ambulence to the Grenada County Hospital and could be out for the year. The Patriots came back to hold them on the drive on fourth down that ended the half and the Patriots trailed 7-6. In the second half, the Patriots marched the ball downfield to the 20 where T.D. found Morgan on a short pass that turned into a big gain down to the 2 yard line. But the Patriots stalled and Morgan was forced to kick what turned into the game winner for the Patriots. From then on out the Patriot defense allowed very little and no points whatsoever and the Patriots would clinch the game with a 38 yard field goal with 1 min. remaining. The Patriots made sure they had the game won on the Kirk possession as Channing Martin overthrew his receiver down field and Austin Harrison was waiting to pull that in. The Patriots improved to 3-0 and Kirk fell to 2-1. The Patriots now turn to Conference play for the first time as they travel to Madden to take on the always tough Leake Rebels in their final game of their 3 game road trip.
